UKCA (UK Conformity Assessed) is the new product mark used for goods placed on the market in Great Britain (England, Wales, and Scotland, not Northern Ireland, which remained within the European single market with respect to trade in goods). It covers most of the products that required CE marking and, in a mirror-image fashion, just as the CE mark demonstrated compliance with European requirements so the UKCA mark demonstrates that all requirements of British legislation have been met.
It will be necessary to use the UKCA mark from January 1, 2023 for most products, but it would be wise to try to use the UKCA mark as soon as possible. In the meantime, CE-marked goods can still be placed on the UK market, provided that the CE conformity requirements are the same as for the UKCA mark. This provision also takes effect toward goods that have been assessed by a European notified body.
There are alternative guidelines and different provisions for categories such as railway interoperability, construction products, civil explosives, and products requiring ecodesign and energy labeling.
